About

Clube Nacional, founded in 1912, is an integral part of Panjim's social scene. From its inception, it has served the Goan community and continues to do so today. During colonial times, the Portuguese established another club in the town, exclusively for high-ranking officers and civil servants, with no local membership allowed. In response, Goans—some of whom held civil service positions and others who were well-off—decided to create a club for the people of Goa, leading to the founding of Clube Nacional.

The Club operated from a few locations before settling at the Vaglo building. For many of us, it holds nostalgic memories of attending various soirées in its grand hall. Several of us also celebrated our wedding receptions there. However, these social activities are no longer possible, as the Club requires repairs before it can host such events again.

The Clube organized several dances throughout the year. For Carnaval, there was a dance on Sunday (Festa do Domingo Gordo) and another on Tuesday, which later was called Red and Black Dance. Other annual events included the Festa de Santo Antonio in June and the Festa de Espiga (Harvest Dance) in September. The Club also hosted the Baile do Aniversário (Anniversary Ball) and the grand Baile do Passagem do Ano (New Year's Ball) on December 31st. Over time, the Clube introduced additional events such as Noite Portuguesa and Konkani Evening.

We believe everyone can embrace who they are,
can define their future, and can change the world.
